August's breach wave: even the biggest names get hit

22 August 2025 Β· Lumen MSP

August 2025 brought a wave of major data breaches affecting household names across finance, travel and technology β€” with organisations including Google, Allianz Life and Air France–KLM among those reported to have been hit, many through a shared third-party platform. Security analysts tallied well over ten million records exposed in the month alone.

The recurring theme: even the largest, best-resourced organisations get caught out β€” frequently via a supplier rather than a direct breach.

Why this matters

  • No one is immune β€” the biggest names were affected.
  • Supply-chain attacks scale β€” one compromised platform exposes many customers.
  • Detection and response decide outcomes β€” speed limits the damage.
  • Breach notification is now routine β€” having a plan ready is essential.

What we’d advise

If perfect prevention isn’t realistic, how you detect and respond becomes decisive. We give clients monitored systems, layered defences and a rehearsed response, so an incident is handled quickly and calmly.
