The PSTN switch-off is coming — here's what UK businesses need to know

3 June 2026 · Lumen MSP

The UK’s traditional telephone network — the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and ISDN — is being switched off. Openreach is moving everyone to digital, internet-based calling, and any service that still relies on the old copper network will need to migrate.

Why it matters

It’s not just office phones. Anything running over an analogue line can be affected, including:

  • Phone systems and ISDN lines
  • Card payment terminals
  • Door entry and alarm systems
  • Lift emergency lines

What to do now

  1. Audit every service that uses a phone line.
  2. Plan your migration to VoIP — modern, flexible and often cheaper.
  3. Upgrade with confidence, treating the switch as a chance to modernise.

The earlier you plan, the smoother the change. Talk to Lumen MSP about a seamless migration to hosted VoIP or Microsoft Teams calling.
